Dr. Rao's ENT Care Super Speciality Hoispital

Dr. GVS Rao, India’s leading ENT surgeon based in Hyderabad, Telangana, established the Hyderabad ENT Research Foundation (HERF) in 1996 with three clear-cut goals:

  1. To train young ENT surgeons and postgraduates in the basic and advanced ear, nose and throat surgeries through hands on training, along with discussion and live
    demonstration of surgeries.
  2. To conduct research and to develop new techniques and equipment for improving ENT care delivered to the patients.
  3. To help poor patients by conducting free ENT surgeries, and providing free medicines and hospital stay, and to raise general awareness towards ENT disorders.

Goal one: To train capable ENT surgeons

In 16 years since establishment, HERF has conducted 99 workshops and trained around 3000 ENT surgeons from around the world including several from Iraq, Iran, USA, UK, Pakistan, and Australia. As a matter of fact, close to 90 Iraqi surgeons have been trained at HERF workshops. So well-acknowledged is HERF in Iraq that Dr. GVS. Rao, the Director of the Foundation, is referred to as the ‘Father of ENT’ in this Middle-Eastern nation.

During the HERF workshops, every doctor receives personalized training in performing basic and advanced surgeries on well-maintained specimens. Live surgeries are also performed and demonstrated by eminent ENT surgeons from across the world which feature two-way communication with the doctors present during these workshops. This enables the doctors to understand the finer nuances of a well-crafted ENT surgery.

Hyderabad ENT Research Foundation’s workshops are among the most sought after in the world with registrations getting completely booked within 2-3 days of workshop announcement. Taking this initiative forward, one complete floor with a carpet area of 5000 sq. ft in the new premises of Dr. Rao’s ENT Super Speciality International Hospital has been dedicated entirely to ENT surgeons’ training. This exclusive floor features a 100-seater auditorium, 12-station temporal bone lab, suite rooms for doctors’ stay and other amenities.

Goal Two: To promote research & to develop new surgical techniques

Conducting research and developing innovative surgical techniques are essential for progression of branch of otorhinolaryngology as these ultimately benefit ENT patients with superior treatments. With this goal, the Foundation has published several highly regarded research papers.

Some of these include:

  1. Mini Post Aural Incision in Ear surgery – This technique significantly reduces the size of incision required to perform ear surgery, thereby breaking the myth of ‘the bigger
the incision, the better the exposure, the better the surgery’ and delivering great cosmetic and surgical benefits to the patient.
  2. Hyderabad Technique of Obliteration – Obliterating cavity produced after drilling for removal of cholestetoma by autologous graft materials – thus greatly reducing the
cavity problems in patient with unsafe CSOM.

Goal Three: To help poor patients with free surgeries, medicines and stay. To raise ENT-related awareness among general population.

At Hyderabad ENT Research Foundation we feel strongly about helping the poor and needy population with their ENT healthcare and surgical needs. We regularly conduct free camps in far reaching places in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. During these camps, incoming ENT patients are given careful examination and referred for free investigations whenever necessary. Patients needing ENT surgeries are identified and operated free of cost, either at the camp itself or at Dr. Rao’s ENT Super Speciality
International Hospital. The Foundation has also conducted several ENT awareness camps to raise people’s attention towards ENT ailments and the need for treatment at the earliest. Many of these awareness camps focus on spreading awareness towards critical ENT issues such as head and neck cancers and the influence of alcohol consumption and smoking on it, and the need for new born hearing screening to ensure their well-being.
